Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is a very popular procedure that many women are reluctant to discuss. Cosmetic Labiaplasty aesthetically reshapes the labia minora (pink inner lips of the vagina). Many women suffer with excessively large or asymmetric labia. This condition may be congenitally acquired (something you are born with) or may occur as part of the normal aging process. Some women are hindered by this condition either physically or psychosocially. The large labia may cause discomfort during sexual intercourse or anxiety when wearing certain clothing. Several techniques can reduce or reshape the labia minora to a more pleasing size and shape.
The procedure is performed as an outpatient surgery either in an office surgical suite or a fully accredited ambulatory surgical center. Surgery can be performed under local anesthesia or with sedation. The procedure takes approximately 1 hour and all patients go home after the procedure.
After surgery there will be some swelling and bruising which generally lasts for about a week. The incision site usually heals quickly and with minimal scarring. Showering may be resumed the day after surgery. Strenuous activity and heavy lifting are to be avoided for 2 weeks. One may resume vaginal intercourse 4 weeks after the procedure.
